Hunger Games Week: NOTD- "The Girl On Fire"

Hey Guys!

So welcome to the Day 4 of my Hunger Games Week! This is probably going to be my favorite post for the entire week. This is going to be my manicure to watching the midnight premiere. I call it "The Girl On Fire" as per Katniss Everdeen's manicure during the interview. This is the "Nail Polish" post for the day, if you would like to see the "Fashion" post that i put up about Katniss Accessories

Photobucket

Anyway, if you guys haven't been reading the books, the general gist of the Hunger Games is that the 12 Districts send 2 of their children to the Capitol to fight to the death during the games called "The Hunger Games" If you read my post on Day Two, you'll know that the tributes are sent to the capitol to get all pretty and interviewed before they fight. The main character; Katniss, is nicknamed as "The Girl On Fire" because of her parade costume and her dress during the interview. The book was pretty detailed on her outfit and they specifically talked about her nails once. They said that one of her stylists put flames on her nails. I was VERY inspired to recreate this. I thought it was appropriate to use China Glaze colors as well. So this is my rendition of Katniss' nails :)
Photobucket

So the basic procedure of this is that i placed Fast Track as an over all base of the nail. I then used Scarlet to create a basic shape for the flames. I didnt used a sponge, I just used the brush and scraped off some polish on the side of the bottle. I let all of that dry and then I applied Electrify from the tip down and built up the glitter mostly on the bottom. I finished off with a sprinkling of Luxe and Lush on the bottom just for more glitter.
Photobucket

I used ALL China Glaze colors and I will list all of the names below in the order that they are in the picture.

-Scarlet
-Electrify (Hunger Games Collection)
-Luxe and Lush (Hunger Games Collection)
-Fast Track

Hunger Games Week: Katniss Accessories :D

Hey Guys!
Welcome back to my Hunger Games Week. This is Day 4 of the series. Now I know the last 3 posts have been nothing but nail polishes. I know you guys must be so tired of it, so I wanted to shake things up and put in a fashion post. This is of course, based on Katniss Everdeen Check out the nail polish post for today. Its a manicure called "The Girl On Fire"

Photobucket

Here is the first piece that I wanted to show, This is a ring I got from Forever 21 and im not sure if you can get it anymore, but i felt that this had some representation of Katniss. As you've seen from the trailers, Katniss is known for wearing a Mockingjay pin throughout the Games. Its her way of wearing something from her district (District 12). Now, i know this bird is definitely not a Mockingjay since we have no actual mockingjays, but its pretty darn close. The flowers on the ends are also very reminiscent of a Primrose; which is Katniss' sister's name. So this ring is absolutely a great representation of her.
Photobucket

Now this next piece is kind of playing off the whole "bird" thing again. It might not be mockingjay-esque so if youre unhappy about that, just know that Katniss always hunted birds and sold them throughout the district. I love that this has two tones of color. These ring are actually two separate ones and if you only wanna wear one, then its completely up to you :) I bought this from H&M pretty recently so it might still be around.
Photobucket

Now this is piece of jewelry is rather perfect. These are feather earrings and I got them from Arden B a while ago. The black can represent the coals of District 12 and the orange tips are planned pretty well. Katniss was nicknamed "The Girl Who Was On Fire. The orange tips can show off her "fiery" nature and of course the games themselves.
Photobucket

This last piece is playing towards the "Girl On Fire" thing again, and as you see from the earrings, its pretty self redundant. It looks pretty amazing on all kinds of hair colors. I think it got this at a boutique somewhere around

Anyway, let me know what you guys think of these accessories in the comments below :)

Hunger Games Week: China Glaze - Harvest Moon :)

Hey Guys!
Welcome to Day 3 of Hunger Games Week. If you guys have yet to see the other 2 posts that I put up the last 2 days, then I will definitely link them down below.

Photobucket

But anyway, here is Day 3. As of today. We have 3 days till the Hunger Games premier and following along with my nail polish theme, here is Harvest Moon.

Photobucket

This polish is based of from District 9 which is the Grain district. Im not totally a hundred percent sure of how this nail polish is suppose to represent the District. Its not always well represented in the books. All we know is that they are responsible for grain. Irregardless, this polish is probably one of my favorites for the entire collection. Its a beautiful kind of antiqued copper color and its VERY much a metallic color.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Its an amazingly opaque color. It takes about 1 coat to get its full opacity but if you want the full on "metallic" look, then I would say 2-3 would be great. It lasted amazingly well throughout the week. I wore it for an entire week (which is kind of unheard of. I Always change my nail polish every 2-3 days) and throughout the week, i had the most minimal chipping that I've had in a while. It truely is incredible

Anyway, let me know what you guys think of this nail polish in the comments below :)

Hunger Games Week: NOTD - Diamond in the Rough

Hey Guys!

So this is Day 2 of Hunger Games Week and today I bring you a Nail Of The Day. If you guys missed Day 1 of thes posts, CLICK HERE. That post basically explains this quick series that im doing and shows you the first polish that I'm featuring; which was China Glaze's Smoke and Ashes. That can also serve as a reference to the manicure that I'm showing today. I call this one Diamond In The Rough

Photobucket

So I am still in full "Katniss" mode, ergo the NOTD that Im showing right now. I guess you can say I'm kind of following the book a little with these series. So I need to explain this NOTD a little but more precisely. The tributes (the kids going of to fight in the Hunger Games) are suppose to go to the Capitol and get spiffied up and paraded to show their Districts. Katniss and Peeta are in District 12 which is the Mining district. I know some miners can find diamonds or other gems while mining. but I digress. Anyway, back to Katniss. they are suppose to be dressed but but since Katniss and Peeta arent the most "pretty" when they come to the capitol, they are therefore Diamonds in the Rough. It isnt until their stylist; Cinna and Portia, get a their hands on them that they truly become the diamonds that they are during the interviews.

Photobucket

I used 2 of the China Glaze Hunger Games polish in this manicure. I used China Glaze's Smoke and Ashes as a base and put China Glaze's Luxe and Lush polish on top. Luxe and Lush is a flakie polish. This polish is suppose to represent District 1 and they are mostly responsible for Gems and Diamonds that are sent to the Capitol. It a really great flakie polish.

Photobucket

Photobucket

It tooks AMAZING! The flakie polish looks like its embedded into the black polish which makes it look like stuck diamonds in coal or something in that image. The green from the black polish really reflects off the flakies, giving it that green effect. They definitely compliment each other well.

Anyway, please let me know what you guys think of this mani down in the comments!

Keep a look out on my Hunger Games Week posts :)

Hunger Games Week: China Glaze - Smoke and Ashes

Hey Guys!
So unless you were living under a rock for the past month, Hunger Games is premiering at March 23rd. I totally got suckered into the series and after reading the first 2 (currently reading the third book), I gotta say its DEFINITELY amazing! Anyway, China Glaze has come out with their own rendition of the Districts through nail polish. In honor of the premier week, i thought i would post almost anything until the showing (Im totally going to the midnight showing of it! *excited much?*)

Anyway, For today I wanted to show China Glaze's Smoke and Ashes. I thought it was appropriate to first start with because Katniss (The main girl of the movie) is from District 12, which is what this polish is based from. District 12 is responsible for Mining and pretty much coal production and this is how China Glaze Decided to represent it as.

Photobucket

From far away, it look like a generic black polish. It doesnt really attract a lot of people. It isnt until you come up close to it and you see the beautiful green flecks on the polish. Its a nice kind of emerald/turquoise color too. It shines beautifully in different lights. You can kind of see a hint of purple and blue every now and then but the most predominant colored speck is the green. The black does kind of overpower the shimmer but then again, i think thats the purpose of it. Its suppose to represent District 12 and it does it well. The people in District 12 (according to the book) are always quite covered in dust and always so consumed in the dark and coldness of the environment. In reality, the people are actually a lot more complicated than what they appear to be. I give China Glaze an A+ for the color :)

Photobucket

Anyway, as for formula, it really is not that hard to apply. Not at all streaky or thick. Its the perfect consistency. It took me about 2-3 coats to get this manicure but i think 1-2 coats will do for its opacity. It really is quite an opaque polish and you dont just get plan black on the first swipe. It gives of the green right away.

Anyway, please let me know what you guys think of this polish down in the comments!

Keep a look out on my Hunger Games Week posts :)

till later!
